The MONACO company is located in the municipality of Tortoreto, in the small hamlet of Cavatassi, approximately 200 meters above sea level. It was founded in 1970 by Dr. Ruggero Monaco, a veterinarian who, despite having no prior knowledge of agronomic practices related to olive cultivation, was deeply passionate about olives and decided to plant part of the existing olive grove.
From the 1990s onward, his son Mauro, together with his wife Simona, took over the management of the farm. Their dedication and expertise have transformed these verdant hills into a source of exceptional organic extra virgin olive oil.
To reach the heart of the farm, you will travel along an ancient white country road, taking in the breathtaking panorama. In the distance, you’ll see the majestic Gemini Mountains (1,814 m), Mount Ascension (1,100 m) to one side, and on the other, the towering Gran Sasso d'Italia (2,912 m), the highest mountain range in the Apennines. The unique combination of nearby mountains and the calm, sandy beaches of the Adriatic Sea creates a mild climate, perfect for cultivating olive trees.
The Monaco family lovingly tends to more than 1,600 olive trees on their 7.5-acre farm. A wide variety of olives are grown here, ranging from strictly local types such as Tortiglione to renowned national varieties like Pendolino, Carboncella, Ascolana Tenera, Dritta, Leccino, Frantoio, and Maurino, as well as select international cultivars.
A visit to this farm is much more than a journey into the world of extra virgin olive oil and its meticulous production. It’s an invitation to experience firsthand the passion and resilience behind a profound life choice, steeped in tradition and respect for the land.
